Transitional Wear

 Grey Maxi Dress - H&m
Cardigan - Primark
Rucksack - Radley

Hiya everyone,
Back to the old style of posts, I keep finding new places around to shoot that don't involve me stepping outside!! This is a cosy number, long knitted layers. Perfect transition from winter to spring as it isn't too thick, but the long sleeve-ness is warm. Went hand in hand with my new-ish cardigan that turned out to be a pretty good investment, it goes with everything and I'm not bored of it yet so expect it in many more posts to come. This dress is basically a reaally long, long sleeved t-shirt, and it's not too tight which means you can sit down and eat in it without fear of looking pregnant and/or feeling uncomfortable. I bought this the other day online, and it arrived a few days ago. Due to clearing out my old stuff on ebay (elsmis2010 if you have a burning desire to buy it)  I have a few extra coins meaning I can online shop. Yay. When I bought this, I didn't think it through at all and well.. when it turned up I realised that I was a lot shorter than the model (duh) and that it is actually not a midi dress.. but more a maxi. Lucky I like it anyway because returning things online is an absolute nightmare. Recently returned my superstars because they were faulty and it has been the biggest headache, honestly I would rather trek to a store than go through that again. I seem to be going through a bit of a monochrome phase, so to lighten it up I added in a dark red lip liner, literally superdrugs own make but it's awesome and I'm pretty sure it cost me £1.

Anyway, the ucas dread isn't over yet. *drastically rolls eyes* so this is where I shall leave this post.

If you haven't had a chance to hear it yet, go check out my girl Karmi's song with Perplexus. Download it, share etc it's on itunes too so you can buy it---

Hola,
Seeing as we're coming into the winter months, I thought I would do an inbetween-y outfit, one that is a perfect transitional from autumn to winter. Obviously I would this teamed with a massive coat and probably 5 pairs of tights, but for blog benefit I froze my butt off and went without. So the past two weeks have been pretty busy (hence the lack of posts) but now I have finished uni for the term and sent off my UCAS, so hopefully (fingers, toes, arms and legs crossed) I will get into one of my 5 choices!! If you have been wondering what I've been doing, simply click on this link - Fashion and Textiles blog to see, it is the analytical side of my course, so if you want to see pictures just check my instagram (link at the side of the page) The course has been pretty full on and I would be lying if I said I wasn't glad it's done for the term! If you are considering an art based degree, I really recommend doing some sort of art foundation first. It will 100% show you if it is the right course for you to continue onto at degree level!! So many people I know have dropped out after picking the wrong course, and honestly this foundation diploma has been one of the best things I've ever decided to do.

Anyway, life lesson over. If you have read my blog before you will probably have noticed I'm a bit of a fan of jewelry, and jewelry in particular that I have bought, or been bought from markets around the world. I think there is something so awesome about going to a place, having a million memories and being able to wear that anytime, anywhere. It's always subtle because you can never tell where they're from, but I love it. So, xmas is coming up................................................................................ hint x
I am THO excited for Christmas, I get to go to Cambridge to see my fam and eat enough food for 3 people and get pressies and give pressies, probably my favourite time of year. Even these earrings look like little Christmas trees, the excitement is real.

But yeah, sidetracking.
I will hopefully be uploading LOTZ this holiday as long as I'm not working too much.
Oh and also, I am selling lots of bits (most of it gross) on my ebay, so have a little lookie - elsmis2010 some of it is nice lol

TA FOR RETURNING
Big love
(come back soon)

I repeat-
(If you don't want to get me a Christmas pressie, then I will accept you following my other social media's as a gift instead.)

Pattern Overdrive

Crotchet Crop Top - eBay
Bandeu - H&m
Trousers - TKMaxx
Earrings - Topshop
Scrunchie - Local Pharmacy ........................ no not DIY soz
Rings - Present from Kp and Camden Markets
Handmade Rucksack - Israeli Vintage Shop

So I hit 15,000 views today which is very exciting and all!!!!

Here's a little 'Ootd' to celebrate, bit of a summer outfit, or maybe a festival lookbook. These trousers are just beaut, although when I wore them out last week a guy came up to me and I quote "woah, really digging the whole pyjama vibe you've got going on, awesome".........................................they aren't pyjamas mate. Oh how I love a good backhanded compliment in the morning.

Anyway, not too much to say about this one, just love a bit of pattern clashing and it seems colour is the new black! yeah yeah 'Orange' too (orange skort ootd will follow) (see what I did there, now you have something to look forward to) (you're welcome lol) Crochet seems to be the look of this festival season, if anyone knows how to do it let me know because I would love to learn, yeah I tried teaching myself..... unsuccessful. This top is v versatile btw, can be worn both ways, as in back and front...not inside out. Obviously with a top/bikini/bandeu underneath or it would be a true 'free the nipple' ad.

BUT HEY
Thank you so much if you've been reading and supporting this blog, means the world and please continuing reading!

Birkenstocks Are Back, And They're Flatforms

Dungarees - River Island
Croptop - BDG
Choker - eBay
Other Necklace - Birth present... (In other words, I don't know)
Scrunchie - DIY OBVIOUSLY - here's how I made it CLICK THIS
Platform Birks - Truffles

HOLA EVERYBADY I AM OFFICIALLY BACK! But sadly not black.
(white girl problems of slow tanning)

Oh, how much I have missed you all!
This is pretty much the exact outfit I wore on the plane to Amsterdam to start off my UNBELIEVABLE month travelling, which I shall post about very soon. I had been searching for dungaree's for absolutely bloody ages, ebay, topshop, asos etc but I didn't want rip-off Levi's so I thought I would wait to visit Bricklane/Camden/Shoreditch etc to go buy a second hand pair and in the meantime I bought these.  They're sort of silky, so actually really light to wear in summer, but teamed with a thick knitted jumper I can definitely carry these through to Autumn Winter, oh the variety. Very good purchase.

Flares r fab.

I am aware of the hypocritical nature of me buying these shoes following on from my early post called 'Ugly Shoe Obsession'  BUT I am retracting my earlier statement of hate towards birkenstocks, cos I love them.
These were a fab £18.99 including postage, unlike the exact replica that Jeffrey Campbell do for about £1000, the platform works in my favour as I have little legs, and well... white is great.

SO I know the above OOTD formerly introduced you to these new babies, but here they are. Up close and personal. Teamed with my favourite skort from Primark (I KNOW) and a present from my babes Sarah, from some random company, the label says BDG but I don't know what that means, or where that's from.

So there you go, 2 OOTD's in 1, you lucky people.

Because I have so many un-written posts, I will probably be blogging most days for the next few weeks, including posts about my trip and a few OOTD's from when I was away, so don't worry. You will be seeing much more of me very soon

PEACE

Dressing For The Flag

Maxi Dress - TK Maxx
Heels - Primark
Belt - No idea
Lip liner - Rimmel London
Lipstick - Mac 'Russian Red'
Earings - I want to say St Albans Market, but I can't actually remember

If you are wondering what 'OOTD' stands for, it means 'Outfit Of The Day' (just in case)
A little while ago I bought this cute maxi from TK Maxx and I think it's the perfect balance between daywear and nightwear, swapping in a pair of trainers and a fedora for big earings and a pair of heels. As the bottom of the dress is slit up the sides it can be easily tied up to make it 'beachy' and therefore casual, or left long and floaty, hence 'nightwear.'
And no.. I don't mean nightwear in the sense of what one wears to bed, because (just a guess here) but I don't know any 18 year olds who sleep in floor length dresses.

Don't actually have much to say about this, as its just a very simple outfit. Obviously featuring plaits, how else would I tame my hair and red lipstick just to bring it together. Ah...I am the colours of the British flag, how appropriate following their recent success in the world cup.

As always, ta for reading, following, sharing
means a lot, be back soon!

How To - DIY Scrunchie

Hola fellow DIY'ers!! In today's post I shall be sharing my wonderful tutorial of how to make your own SCRUNCHIE.
SO YE I FINALLY GOT ROUND TO DOING THIS.

If you, like me are a curly (big haired) girly and the majority of hairbands snap after a weeks use, then scrunchies are a beautiful solution. And they look fab.
My ever growing collection has now branched with matching previous DIY jobs, like my 'Halterneck Top.' Which I have made matching scrunchies for, how adorable. Link for that DIY is heeeeeeeere.
Below are a "small" selection of one's I have previously made, however not all as I couldn't fit them all on my arm:

From left to right:
Velvet, Velvet, Silk, Cotton, Denim, Cotton, Silk, Velvet

YOU WILL NEED:

  • Material of your choice
  • Sewing machine or a lot of patience
  • A needle
  • Thread that matches your chosen material
  • An elastic band
  • Fabric scissors

THE MAKING:

So to start you will need to measure and cut a piece of your material, I normally do it around 3.5" across and 22" wide, but obviously that is personal choice and preference to how thick you want the scrunchie and how 'scrunchie' you want the scrunchie.

Cutting really doesn't need to be neat you wont see any of the seems. The next step is to simply fold the material in half length-ways INSIDE-OUT and pin it vertically. Pinning vertically is magical in the sense that it means you can sew the fabric in a sewing machine without removing the pins as you go along, this is much quicker and ensures the material stays exactly where you want it.
Sew the whole length, and back-stitch the beginning and end so the thread doesn't unravel.
I do this stitching twice, because through previous experience if it snaps, the scrunchie will stay 'whole.'
Now you need to turn the fabric back the right way round, thread it through itself so to speak. And it should look something like the picture below:

Cut your elastic band at one point and then using a safety pin, attach the pin through one end of the band.
Use the pin to thread the band through your 'tube' of fabric, making sure you hold onto the end of the elastic band that isn't attached to the pin.
Then simply tie the elastic in a double knot, checking it fits your wrist snugly with a bit of room to avoid hand suffocation. And cut off excess elastic band as this will just become annoying when sewing up the scrunchie.

Finally, take your matching thread (or as close as you can get) and double thread a needle making sure the knot at the end is large enough that it won't pull through the fabric. Fold 'in' one side of the fabric to make a seem and tuck the other side of the tube inside that tube... if you know what I mean. Then proceed to sew the whole way round, try to only sew the side of the tube you are sewing to the opposite tube as opposed to sewing through all 4 pieces of fabric. Something like this:

ET VOILA,
la finished scunchie:

*Blue Peter Voice*
[Here's one I made earlier]

Hope that was easy to understand, once you make one you will get the hang of it pretty quickly. They only take me about 10 minutes to make now, from start to finished product in hair.
Anyway, I have gone a little DIY-mad but these halterneck's are so so cute and although I did try (and fail) to make matching shorts I didn't have enough material left so I made matching scrunchies instead. Thinking about maybe selling these, let me know if you would be interested in having one as I can always buy more material!

These tops look quite strange on the hanger, but if you pop over to here or here you can see what it looks like on.
